Backup Windows Phone Contacts and Messages to SD Card

In today’s advance world mobile phone is the basic need for everyone. Contacts and messages are the main important assets on our phone and no one wanna lose it. When ever lose your phone, the main thing you are worried about is; that you have lost such important assets (Contacts and Messages) instead of phone. Step 1: Visit Windows Phone store on phone and install contacts+message backup app from Microsoft Windows store OR Click here to download. This app will not show in your windows phone apps list. To fined this app, you need to Go To Settings and there you will fined it. 1. Setting Backup Sms

Step 2: Open this app and accept the terms & conditions by clicking Agree.2. Accept Agreemnet

Step 3: Select SD Card here.  Don.t worry if your don’t have SD Card in your phone OR phone does not support SD Card. You can alternatively save backup to you phone memory too. Just click on Pick Folder at the bottom.

Step 4: Pick any folder where you wanna save backup. The best option is to create a folder with name Contacts + Messages Backup in phone memory first. For test purpose I select Documents folder.4. Select Backup folder

Step 5: After picking a folder you see the following screen. Click on backup to start backup process. You will see your backup location under backup tab.5. Backup Screen

Step 6: Select the items from list that you wanna backup and click Backup. Backup will start and it will take a while.  6. Select Items - backup

Step 7: When backup completes successfully, you will see backup complete message on screen.

Your contacts and message backup is created and don’t need to worry anymore. Also save this backup to external sources like Computer, Flash Driver OR upload to your email accounts, One Drive Microsoft and many other online storage. If ever in future you need it, you will have multiple options to get your data back easily.

How to restore created backup to windows phone?

As we created backup (contacts and messages) first. Now second important thing is that how to get it back to your windows phone? Well, it is too simple to restore it back. Please follow below steps.

Step 1: When you open the contacts+message backup app. On Home screen you now  you  will see two options, the Backup and Restore. Click restore.

Step 2: Next you need to select items you wanna restore. I’m just restoring my sms only here just for testing. If you wanna restore contacts too, then also select contacts option and click Restore.

9. Restore Backup

Great all messages are back to my inbox. If you follow the same steps as described above you; will be able to create backup of your contacts and important message conversion to your phone or SD Card. Also you will be able to restore it back to existing windows phone or new one.

Key Notes :

  • This contacts+message backup app stores your contacts in VCF format and messages (SMS & MMS including attachments) in XML format. 
  • The backup you created is saved with name backup+restore folder.
  • An minor issue with this app; If you restore backup of messages on dual sim phone, it will restore all message to Sim1. It’s not a big issue so don’t worry about it. The important thing is your messages.
